042712 - RINCONHWYTIME
Posted by Vincente E. Woodward on Saturday, April 28, 2012,
Anyone who has been around me much knows that when you do not hear from me for days at a time that something is going on which is pretty much all-consuming and from which I am unable, temporarily, to tear myself away from.
It usually is some kind of immediate and intense crisis.
Hopefully someone else's.
I say that respectfully, but of course.
It is no different here and now.
Except that, indeed, it is my own crisis which I am taking care of.
That is a most unusual thing.
Something few have seen and...

4-18-12 UPDATE
Posted by Vincente E. Woodward on Wednesday, April 18, 2012,
Went to LAX last night at 10 p.m. to meet with Customs and Immigrations officials and Department of Homeland Security personnel as part of the Global Entry program, which we are told is becoming very popular.
They claim that everybody is doing it to avoid the x-ray machines (which have their genesis in the diamond mines of South Africa).
Those who travel a lot = me = get a lot of radiation from these scanners, and are not happy about it, to say the least.
Especially since we are probably the low... Continue reading ...
4-16-12 DVZ IS FINALLY UP AND RUNNING!
Posted by Vincente E. Woodward on Tuesday, April 17, 2012,
Well, it's only taken an entire year, plus some, in order to even begin to get my head wrapped around this thing.
All went well Saturday from 11 a.m. to about 8 p.m.
There was a lot to this.
By the time we were done I definitely felt that I had a better handle on all of this than I did before I arrived.
I will spare everybody the details, at this time, but as of 7 p.m. tonight, I finally figured this thing out.
Oh, did I forget to mention that I have been worknig on this very long and very diffic... Continue reading ...
4-13-12 BODY IS IN CALIFORNIA; MIND NOT HERE YET
Posted by Vincente E. Woodward on Friday, April 13, 2012,
Got back, alive and well, on the 11th at 12:45 p.m. (i.e. 15 minutes to 1 p.m.), in 15 minutes ahead of schedule.
British Airways from Zurich to Heathrow in London, leaving at 7 a.m.
Heathrow stopover times about 2 hours, then on to LAX.
Fifteen hour flight which goes across the normal polar route that most European trips go through, but then suddenly cuts in through northern Canada, and then drops down to cut across the Dakotas and the Rockies and then keeps moving in a southward arc until we a... Continue reading ...
4-10-12 CONTINUING
Posted by Vincente E. Woodward on Tuesday, April 10, 2012,
It is almost 11 p.m. here.
I have been getting bags packed and everything "organized".
I don't really have much to say right now, because my brain is shutting down from emotional exhaustion and physical exhaustion.
But, I still have 38 minutes left on my Swisscom card so I have decided to blather on for a few minutes so that I will not feel too guilty wasting that precious time for which I have already paid.
Today was a very eventful day.
As anyone who has had excessive adrenaline rushes knows, wh... Continue reading ...
4-10-12 ALL SYSTEMS GO!
Posted by Vincente E. Woodward on Tuesday, April 10, 2012,
It is 3 p.m. local time.
Just got back from a very nice lunch with my very dear friend.
All goals are accomplished.
Everything went ridiculously smoothly.
Will be leaving on schedule with several people here completing tasks and then sending the finished results to me to do final completion.
Very good people to work with.
The levels of knowledge and expertise are pure pleasure to deal with.
Must be at airport in Kloten at 5 a.m. for 7 a.m. flight.
And then back home, for time being.
May have to wait f... Continue reading ...
4-10-12 GETTING READY TO MOVE REALLY FAST
Posted by Vincente E. Woodward on Monday, April 9, 2012,
It is 30 minutes past midnight, local time.
I just got back an hour ago from shooting up the town from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Shooting with a camera, of course.
I have been continuing shaking down this Sony Nex-3.
Took another 800 shots tonight = working it hard, and so far it seems very much up to the job.
I am really amazed, to be quite honest, and very pleased, I should add.
My normal travel camera for the past several years has been the Nikon D300.
It is an outstanding camera, but very heavy, and req... Continue reading ...
4-8-12 CONTINUING
Posted by Vincente E. Woodward on Sunday, April 8, 2012,
The local time is 3:22 p.m.
According to my netbook clock it is 6:22 a.m. in Ventura.
All is quiet at the moment, such that I have a little bit of time to write some more.
Went over to Grossmunster this morning for morning service at 10 a.m.
The service was similar to the one on Friday, except that it was led by the older gentleman, instead of the younger one.
The two men who we would think of as ministers or pastors or something of the sort are Herr Professors, by title, rather than minister so a...

4-8-12 ON MY WAY TO GROSSMUNSTER
Posted by Vincente E. Woodward on Sunday, April 8, 2012,
I wanted to share a quote which I read in a little booklet about the Grossmunster before I leave this morning.
On the lintel at the entrance to the cathedral is written a quote from Zwingli which I think well sums up his and many others' belief system:
If the word of God is honestly told here
by that you shall keep the land of your fathers
even if the devil does not like it
because where there is awe of God
there is the help of God
Huldrych Zwingli
Also, another quote I picked up yesterday in a book ... Continue reading ...

4-7-12 HAPPY RESURRECTION DAY!
Posted by Vincente E. Woodward on Saturday, April 7, 2012,
Well, I finally figured out how to outwit my netbook, I hope.
After my last post I went to bed at 2 a.m. and then got back out the door onto the street at 9 a.m. to go over to the Grossmunster (cathedral) for 10 a.m. Reformed Protestant service.
All of the city streets were empty.
The entire Bahnhoffstrasse had no one on it and just one very lonely looking trolley.
I have never seen such a thing.
It looked like something out of a science fiction movie.
I was in the Grossmunster for the first time a...

4-6-12 WHAT A NIGHTMARE!
Posted by Vincente E. Woodward on Thursday, April 5, 2012,
So sorry for the long wait.Have been wrestling with several computers for days.Numerous crazy and unusual problems.
But, here we are finally.
I will spare everybody the details for the time being so that I can use the time to tell what is going on right now.Met with our contact yesterday and today.
He helped me out with some personal referrals to others who, I believe, are going to be very helpful.
As usual he is so far ahead of everyone else that one can only wonder how.
We are meeting with anoth... Continue reading ...
